Who needs emigration clearance

Indian citizens with an "Emigration Check Required" (ECR) passport need to obtain emigration clearance before traveling to an ECR country for employment.
 

How to get emigration clearance

You can get emigration clearance through a registered recruiting agent, directly from a foreign employer, or from a project exporter.
 

Documents required

The documents required for emigration clearance depend on your category. For example, skilled and semi-skilled workers need to provide:

• A passport valid for at least six months with a valid visa 
• An employment contract from the foreign employer 
• A challan towards the prescribed fee 

Who doesn't need emigration clearance

Citizens of India with an "Emigration Check Not Required" (ECNR) passport do not need to obtain emigration clearance.

Where to get emigration clearance

You can get emigration clearance from any of the eight Protector of Emigrants (POE) offices in India. These offices are located in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Cochin, and Thiruvananthapuram
